The CMS has inked a multiyear agreement with MarkLogic Corp. as part of its "cloud first" strategy, the vendor said Tuesday.
The CMS is in the midst of migrating data to a cloud service from Amazon Web Services, according to a news release. The agency plans to use a data integration service from MarkLogic to support this process, chiefly by bringing together data from disparate sources to help build and deploy new applications in the cloud environment.
The CMS has pursued a range of cloud-based projects in recent years, including working with the U.S. Digital Services to begin processing Medicare claims in the cloud.
The CMS' agreement with MarkLogic is a renewal of a contract the agency first struck as part of the HealthCare.gov launch. The consumer-facing HealthCare.gov site, which faced a troubled rollout in 2013, facilitates enrollment in health insurance plans.
MarkLogic said its work on the project entailed coordinating data from public and private sectors.
"CMS is a showcase for how to successfully integrate, access and share massive amounts of data required to improve population health," MarkLogic CEO Gary Bloom said in a statement.
