Matti Gellman is a D.C.-based reporting fellow covering politics and policy. She graduated Syracuse University in May 2020, where she studied journalism and international relations. As a student she helped run Syracuse's first media non-profit to exclusively cover the city's underserved South Side neighborhood, where she reported on criminal justice and housing. She also contributed to her school's paper and covered political campaigns within the district for the graduate school. Since graduating she has worked on a series of cross-border investigations with the Toronto Star examining mental health policies and support services within public universities. Most recently she helped report on the 2020 general election and subsequent protests for the Associated Press.
California Goc. Gavin Newsom called for state and healthcare workers to confirm their full vaccination status or submit to weekly COVID tests starting in August, per an announcement on Monday. They are the first state to mandate this standard for employees.
Promising results from a federal demonstration has spurred a bipartisan group of senators to push for new pay models that support integrating primary care and behavioral health. It comes at a time when demand for mental health servcies have spiked due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
