Walgreens said on Wednesday that it has entered into an agreement with Laboratory Corporation of America to sell Pixel by Labcorp COVID-19 PCR Test Home Collection Kits over-the-counter in its stores.
Under the agreement, the drugstore will make the kits available in up to 6,000 stores nationwide, with the goal of providing a testing option at stores that don't currently have on-site testing.
Customers will be able to purchase the kit at Walgreen's stores without a prescription and then self-administer the test and mail it to Labcorp for processing. The test uses short nasal swabs for sample collection.
"This is yet another convenient way for consumers to learn if they are infected with COVID-19, which can help communities continue the fight against this global pandemic," Brian Caveney, chief medical officer and president, Labcorp Diagnostics, said in a statement.
