Mass General Brigham, Beth Israel Lahey Health, and Wellforce will require vaccinations for employees, even those who do not have direct contact with patients, the systems announced yesterday.
Eighty-five percent of Mass General Brigham's 80,000 workers have already been vaccinated.
In a press release, Mass General Brigham CEO Dr. Anne Klibanski said the decision was science-based.
"Mass General Brigham joins many other leading health care systems in the United States in making COVID-19 vaccination a requirement, ensuring that patients are being cared for in the safest clinical environment possible," Klibanski said in a prepared statement, citing exemptions for medical and religious reasons.
More than 150 Houston Methodist employees are no longer employed by the hospital following its recent mandate.
