As COVID-19 continues its dangerous march around the world, many are taking time to publicly thank those dedicated to helping patients.
In Spain, it’s nightly applause for healthcare workers, a ritual that’s spread to other countries, including Belgium, Canada, France, Greece, India and Italy. On Twitter, cellist Yo-Yo Ma dedicated a Bach piece to “healthcare workers on the front lines.” And in Chicago, it was as simple as a sidewalk chalk message outside Amita Health St. Joseph Hospital.
Some celebrities did their part by recording videos urging their fans to practice social distancing, keep washing their hands and stay at home, including Seth Rogen, Ryan Reynolds, Danny DeVito and Robert DeNiro, who echoed his “Meet the Parents” character: “I’m watching you.”
One adorable reaction to the COVID quarantine came from Rolo, the dachshund of Twitter user @Emmasmith77xx in Bristol, England. “So my dog has been so happy that everyone is home for quarantine, that his tail has stopped working, so we went to the vet and the vet said ‘he had sprained his tail from excessively wagging it,’ ” Smith tweeted.
And in Baraboo, Wis., residents of SSM Health St. Clare Meadows Care Center used Twitter to let their loved ones know they’re doing OK through handwritten signs.
