COVID-19 is on pace to kill roughly 1 out of every 1,000 people in the U.S. in 2020 and infect about 62 of every 1,000 people. The rate of COVID deaths was calculated to be the same as if there were a 9/11 event occurring every 1.5 days, according to a JAMA study. And the expected growth in annual U.S. deaths of 15% hasn't been high since World War I.
