In-home healthcare provider WellBe Senior Medical is expanding into New York through a partnership with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, the companies announced Wednesday.
The organizations did not release teh deal's financial terms, but it will make WellBe Senior Medical's services available to approximately 30,000 Excellus BCBS Medicare Advantage members in upstate New York through a multi-year partnership. Home-based services will be available to Excellus BCBS beneficiaries in Rochester, New York, within a few days and to other beneficiaries in upstate and Western New York at a later date, according to an Excellus BCBS spokesperson.

New York is the eighth and largest state where the Chicago-based healthcare company will provide services. It is also the first state into which WellBe Senior Medical has expanded since receiving an undisclosed investment in January from CVS Health’s venture capital unit to help the company grow nationally.
WellBe Senior Medical is among a handful of companies, including Harmony Cares, Patina Health and CenterWell Primary Care, offering home-based care to older adults through capitated risk arrangements with private payers.
The company provides health assessments, care coordination and medication management to older adults with chronic conditions, mobility problems and cognitive deficits. The service is aimed at preventing unnecessary hospitalizations or emergency department visits and reducing overall healthcare costs to payers.
“This group represents some of our most at-risk members who are in need of comprehensive, coordinated and convenient care,” said Tony Vitagliano, Excellus BCBS senior vice president of provider network engagement.
Private equity firm Chicago Pacific Partners launched WellBe Senior Medical in 2019. It also provides services in Illinois, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, West Virginia and Oregon to approximately 107,000 older adults.
