UVA Health CEO Dr. Craig Kent resigned following an internal investigation spurred by the health system’s physician group.
The University of Virginia board and UVA President James Ryan had a special meeting on Feb. 25 to discuss the findings of an independent investigation into UVA Health. Kent resigned after the meeting, a University of Virginia spokesperson said.

The investigation stemmed from a no-confidence letter the University of Virginia Physicians Group sent to the university board in September. The letter alleged Kent and University of Virginia School of Medicine Dean Dr. Melina Kibbe pressured clinicians not to report patient safety concerns, among other allegations.
The spokesperson did not say if Kibbe offered to resign.
The University of Virginia Physicians Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Kent had been CEO of the Charlottesville, Virginia-based academic system since 2020. He was also the executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Mitchell Rosner, chair of the University of Virginia Department of Medicine, has stepped in as acting executive vice president for health affairs, the spokesperson said.
