Maimonides Medical Center and New York Community Hospital said Tuesday they plan to integrate their organizations to more effectively care for the Brooklyn communities they serve.
Maimonides and NYCH have had a clinical collaboration since 2018 in which Maimonides specialists have provided services at the smaller NYCH campus, located in the Midwood and Madison Park section of Brooklyn. The providers said their network of care offers Brooklynites a full range of services close to home.
"Both organizations have a proven track record of clinical excellence and community commitment, and this integration will help make high-quality care available to more people across the borough," Kenneth Gibbs, CEO of Maimonides Medical Center, said in a statement.
Over the coming months, the providers will conduct further planning and engage in dialogue with their communities, workforce, labor unions and physicians to define the integration structure.
"We are excited to take this next step with Maimonides to further strengthen services for New York Community Hospital's surrounding communities," Barry Stern, CEO of New York Community, said in a statement. "We are looking forward to continuing to work together to ensure that Brooklyn residents have local access to outstanding care for years to come."
Maimonides, a 711-bed tertiary provider in Brooklyn, reported $1 billion in revenue in 2018, but operated at a 16% loss margin that year, according to the most recent data from Modern Healthcare Metrics.
New York Community, a 134-bed acute-care hospital, posted about $100 million in revenue in 2018 and operated at a 6% loss margin, Metrics data show.
