ManorCare Health Services in Palm Harbor, Fla. launched its COVID-19 vaccination Wednesday.
This marks the beginning of the country's efforts to vaccinate long-term care residents, who have represented 40% of the U.S. COVID-19 deaths.
Most residents were vaccinated and half of the site's staff was vaccinated. The other half of the staff will be vaccinated later, said a spokesperson for ProMedica, which operates ManorCare.
Advocates for the nursing home industry had made a case for the facilities to get first access but the matter was left up to the states to adopt their own strategy.
