Hackensack Meridian Health is working with New Jersey officials to build a $200 million mixed-use development around a transit center, featuring outpatient services and office space.
The Hackensack Meridian Health and Wellness Center is set to be completed in September 2025. The Edison, New Jersey-based nonprofit health system plans to sell $110 million in state tax credits to offset construction costs, and provide $90 million for the project after those sales.

Hackensack and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) are looking to increase access to care and housing while boosting transit use at the state’s second-largest hub. The development — construction of which will start Friday — will include 60,000 square feet of space adjacent to the Woodbridge Metropark station dedicated to healthcare services, including primary care, imaging, rehabilitation, urgent care and orthopedic care.
“This can provide a model for other providers and states to follow,” said Hackensack CEO Robert Garrett, describing the project as the first of its kind to combine an outpatient hub with a major transit center.
The wellness center is part of Hackensack's ongoing outpatient expansion. The health system has more than 500,000 square feet of outpatient space planned or under construction.
Part of the 240,000-square-foot development in northeast New Jersey will include office space for Hackensack’s IT, finance, human resources and other administrative staff. As a result, the health system plans to consolidate its related office space, reducing its real estate footprint by about 25%, Garrett said.
