Urgent care company CityMD, which operates in two Northeastern states, is expanding into Connecticut.
CityMD will open a location in Norwalk on Sept. 30, followed by another site in Fairfield next year, according to a Thursday news release.

New York-based CityMD was founded in 2010 by emergency medicine physicians and operates more than 170 locations in New York and New Jersey. The company is owned by Walgreens-backed VillageMD, which acquired it and multispecialty group partner Summit Health in an $8.9 billion deal in early 2023. CityMD and Summit merged in 2019.
A spokesperson declined to provide an investment cost for the new Connecticut locations.
The company's centers treat common conditions such as cold, flu and allergies, in addition to rapid testing, X-rays, lab work and immunizations, among other services. Sites are open 365 days a year and accept walk-ins or appointments.
It's been a tumultuous year and a half for VillageMD. The primary care provider was once pegged for rapid expansion with support from Walgreens, which up until recently sought to expand its healthcare services offerings. However, Walgreens took a $6 billion hit on the investment in its second quarter ended Feb. 29, and VillageMD shuttered dozens of clinics this year.
