Amedisys announced it will purchase the home health assets of AssistedCare Home Health and RH Homecare Services—which conducts business as AssistedCare of the Carolinas—effective around April 1, the company said Wednesday.
The acquisition is the home health, hospice and personal care company's second home health purchase this month, following its early February announcement to buy Evolution Health from Envision Healthcare.
The deal gives Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Amedisys a greater footprint in North Carolina, including in Wilmington and Greenville, the company said in a news release.
Elizabeth Robinson, senior vice president of operations for Amedisys' Home Health Mid-Atlantic Region, called the area "an important region for growth."
"We're excited to be able to serve more than 80% of the Medicare population in North Carolina once this transaction is finalized," Robinson said in a news release.

With the acquisition, Amedisys will operate 350 home health facilities, the company said.
"Amedisys will provide additional scale and resources that will expand our opportunities to care for more patients in more communities across North Carolina," said Amedisys president and chief operating officer Chris Gerard, who will become the company's CEO April 15.
News of the deal came on the same day as Amedisys reported its fourth-quarter and year-end financials. The company's net income declined by 24%—to $34 million—during the fourth quarter, but rose by 14% overall, up to $209.1 million for the year.
