Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s first Senate confirmation hearing centered on flashpoints such as vaccines and abortion, but he offered clues that his approach to big ticket healthcare issues would reflect President Donald Trump's priorities.
The nominee for Health and Human Services secretary also left some members of the Finance Committee questioning whether he has a grasp of how the U.S. healthcare system actually functions, or whether he has thought through his plans beyond recommending people eat healthier food.

Still, it was enough for Finance Committee Chair Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), who had been circumspect about his take on Kennedy since Trump announced his pick last month.
“You have gone through the most thorough vetting process that any committee in this Congress puts anybody through, and I think that you have come through well and deserve to be confirmed.” Crapo said in a news release after the hearing. The Finance Committee has not scheduled a vote on whether to recommend Kennedy to the Senate.
