Walgreens has tapped former Optum executive Jason Stenta as its first chief commercial officer.
Stenta as of Monday is overseeing commercial growth strategy at Walgreens, including development of business-to-business healthcare services opportunities and partnerships with payers, providers and life sciences companies, according to a news release.

Stenta was senior vice president of payer sales at UnitedHealth Group-owned Optum. He joined the company two years ago when UnitedHealth Group acquired claims processor Change Healthcare, where he worked, in a $13 billion deal.
Before Change and Optum, Stenta spent 10 years at CVS Health, where he held various leadership roles, according to the release.
Other leaders have held similar roles to chief commercial officer at Walgreens, but Stenta will be the first with the title, a Walgreens spokesperson said.
Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth is pushing for a turnaround at the retail pharmacy chain, which has struggled with reimbursement rates on the pharmacy side and waning interest from retail customers. Wentworth rebuilt the company's executive leadership team over the last year, including appointing Lanesha Minnix as global chief legal officer in April. Wentworth also named Mary Langowski as president of Walgreens' U.S. healthcare business in February.
