Former Veterans Affairs Secretary Dr. David Shulkin has joined the board of ArmadaHealth, a Maryland health data company that offers a database for patients to find physicians.
President Donald Trump fired Shulkin last year from the top post at the VA, where the former secretary also served under President Barack Obama. Prior to the VA, Shulkin was CEO of hospitals including New York City's Beth Israel and New Jersey's Morristown Medical Center.
Last September, he joined Sanford Health as chief innovation officer, where his work encompasses the health system's genetic testing project.
"Dr. Shulkin is a pioneer in leveraging quality to drive better outcomes," ArmadaHealth CEO Steve Schaefer said. "ArmadaHealth was created to address the fact that our healthcare eco-system lacks objective mechanisms to match physicians to the needs and preferences of consumers. With the lack of transparency about healthcare providers, consumers struggle to access the right care. Dr. Shulkin is helping us fix these problems."
