Providence announced Friday its chief financial officer, an ex-Microsoft executive who assumed the prominent C-suite role three years ago, is stepping down.
Renton, Wash.-based Providence said Venkat Bhamidipati has taken a role with a technology company in the Bay Area, where his family lives. Greg Hoffman, the system's chief transformation officer, will assume the role of interim CFO, effective Sept. 1.
Providence CEO Dr. Rod Hochman said in a statement that Bhamidipati played a pivotal role in accelerating the system's vision for transforming care.
"While we are incredibly sad to see him go, this move will allow him to return to the technology sector, challenge himself in a new way, and be in a place he calls home," he said.
Providence said Bhamidipati was instrumental in designing partnerships to improve care delivery and led efforts to modernize and streamline the system's administrative processes. He developed an enterprise strategy to support the system's mission by sharing services and solutions with other health systems. Early last year, he helped launch Providence's second $150 million healthcare venture fund.
Before becoming CFO of Providence in July 2017, Bhamidipati helped lead Microsoft's cloud transformation.
