Prime Healthcare has named Dr. Sunny Bhatia as its first systemwide president, the health system announced Tuesday.
The cardiologist was most recently CEO of the health system's West Coast region. He joined Prime in 2011, serving as chief medical officer at its Sherman Oaks Hospital and Encino Hospital Medical Center, both in California.

The Ontario, California-based system has expanded its footprint through multiple deals this year. In July, it purchased 13 facilities from St. Louis-based Ascension. In April, the system acquired five hospitals in a $350 million deal with Medical Properties Trust, landlord of Dallas-based Steward Health Care.
Prime operates 44 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient sites across 14 states.
