MetroHealth CEO Airica Steed is on medical leave, and Chief Financial Officer Derrick Hollings will take over her role in the interim.
There is no timeline for Steed’s return, a spokesperson for the Cleveland-based nonprofit health system said.

Steed left Sinai Chicago for MetroHealth in December 2022. She started the job about a month earlier than expected after an investigation revealed that former MetroHealth CEO Dr. Akram Boutros funneled more than $1.9 million in supplemental bonuses to himself over a four-year period without the board of trustees' knowledge.
MetroHealth reported operating income of $27.7 million on operating revenue of $1.81 billion in 2023, according to its audited financial statement. The health system reported operating income of $62.1 million on operating revenue of $1.6 billion in 2022. Its pharmaceutical expenses, as well as salary and wage expenses, increased 34% and 12% year over year.
