Medtronic has appointed Sean Lennon as its new chief information officer, effective April 29.
Lennon will replace Mike Hedges, who is retiring from the CIO role after 10 years.
As CIO, Lennon will develop information and technology strategies that support Medtronic's growth and operational efficiency, according to a news release.
Medtronic is one of the biggest names in medical technology, raking in $29.9 billion in its fiscal 2018—up 0.8% from the year prior—driven by growth in its cardiac and vascular, restorative therapies and diabetes groups. The company posted $6.7 million in operating profit for the year, up 24.8% from 2017.
Lennon brings more than three decades of healthcare technology experience to the medical device giant, primarily from leading IT at pharmaceutical companies.
He most recently served as CIO of Allergan, where he established a digital leadership council and led the consolidation of numerous enterprise resource planning systems into a single platform.
Lennon has also held senior leadership positions at Novartis, Schering-Plough and Actavis Generics, formerly Watson Pharmaceuticals.
