America's Essential Hospitals President and CEO Dr. Bruce Siegel plans to retire at the end of the year.
Siegel joined the trade group, which represents the nation's safety-net hospitals, as CEO in 2010. He was named president the following year. Previous leadership roles include serving as president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital in Florida and president of NYC Health+Hospitals in New York.

"The association board is discussing the process of identifying the next CEO," a spokesperson for America's Essential Hospitals said Wednesday.
During his time with the organization, Siegel led efforts to eliminate Medicaid disproportionate share hospital payment cuts, preserve the 340B drug discount program and secure $15 billion in safety-net hospital funding during the COVID-19 pandemic, among other initiatives. He also has focused on the issue of health disparities, leading a campaign to incorporate social risk factors into federal value-based purchasing programs.
