Amedisys President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Gerard will succeed Paul Kusserow as CEO effective April 15, the for-profit home health and hospice provider announced Monday.
Kusserow will remain chairman of the company's board and Gerard will join the panel, according to an Amedisys news release.
"Having the opportunity to be part of and lead Amedisys for the past seven years has genuinely been the highlight of my career. Seeing what we have built since 2014, the talent we have developed, the patients we have cared for and the quality care we have focused on and delivered has been simply astonishing," Kusserow said in a news release.
Under Kusserow's leadership, Amedisys added personal care, palliative care, hospital-at-home and skilled-nursing-facility-at-home services to its portfolio and revenue rose 74%, according to the company. Amedisys was one of Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work in 2021.

"Paul will leave very big shoes to fill, and I look forward to officially taking the reins from him and tackling the headwinds and many opportunities before Amedisys in 2022. Amedisys has about 21,000 employees and 529 locations in 38 states and the District of Columbia and annually serves more than 418,000 patients, according to the company.
