"Leading this incredible organization has been the honor of my lifetime," Shaw said in a statement to employees Friday. "My decision to retire clears the path for the very capable next generation of AdventHealth leaders and I am fully confident in the ability of these leaders to continue our legacy of success.”
Shaw joined Altamonte Springs, Florida-based AdventHealth as a business intern in 1982. He then served in other roles at the system, including senior vice president and chief financial officer, before becoming president and CEO in 2016.
In 2023, Shaw said in an interview with Modern Healthcare the organization was looking to expand, aiming for AdventHealth to be worth $20 billion by 2025.
Last month, the health system signed a definitive agreement to acquire Port Charlotte, Florida-based ShorePoint Health System from Community Health Systems for $265 million.
