As flu season and an anticipated uptick in COVID-19 cases quickly approach, cleaning staff in Long Term Care facilities are facing more stringent hygiene expectations. With a heightened focus on hygiene combined with high rates of staff turnover, long term care facilities are facing a new, unique set of challenges.
Research conducted by Tork, the global leader in professional hygiene and a brand of health and hygiene company Essity, found that 58% of cleaning staff find it challenging to follow all the steps and tasks in cleaning guidelines, and 68% of care staff would like to receive better training in hand hygiene.
To meet these increased hygiene expectations, Tork has launched two, free of charge online training solutions. Both trainings are available in multiple languages and designed to be easily accessible to make this information readily available across facilities.
- Tork Cleaning Training for Long Term Care Homes is designed to give staff the knowledge and tools to maintain cleanliness and hygiene within care facilities. Available on desktop, this training can be customized to local cleaning guidelines to ensure cleaning staff carry out their tasks according to the best recommendations.
- Tork Clean Hands Training for Long Term Care Homes is specifically designed to make hand hygiene training more engaging while equipping long term care staff with the day-to-day skills they need to secure hand hygiene. It is available on both desktop and in virtual reality (VR).
Tork also offers innovative hygiene solutions that can be easily integrated into a nursing home or assisted living facility to quickly improve hygiene management efficiency. Within long term care facilities, 56% of cleaners agree that checking hygiene dispensers and fetching product refills takes up a big part of their cleaning time, and 66% of care staff agree that they are so busy that a single hold up means they are often behind until the end of their shifts. Tork offers dispensers that are high capacity and quick to refill, ensuring staff can save time and focus on the residents.
Hygiene solutions can also help provide independence and dignity for residents in long term care facilities. For instance, 81% of residents’ families agree that independent toilet visits preserve residents’ dignity. Tork offers solutions that are certified “Easy to Use” and have a wide range of placement options. These solutions support residents who have limited strength and find it difficult to operate dispensers that require the pulling levers or tearing tissue.
