Nothing has given me more pride and joy than serving as publisher of Modern Healthcare and vice president of Crain Communications for the last 18 years. My position has offered me a front-row seat to this industry’s march toward quality, safety, access and equity.
What an incredible journey and opportunity it has been.
I remember when we were just starting to hear about issues such as big data, telemedicine, the Affordable Care Act and the opioid crisis.
Now we’re faced with new challenges—from COVID-19, interoperability and cybersecurity to burnout, value-based care and industry disruption.
As we reflect on the past, relish the present and look forward to the future, we’re also buoyed by the promise of transformation through technologies like genomic profiling, artificial intelligence, remote care, augmented reality and bioprinting.
Many years ago, Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, said, “When one door closes, another door opens.” With this letter, I’m announcing the closing of the door that represents my career with Modern Healthcare and Crain Communications. But I’ll be opening a new door to semi-retirement and service to the media, publishing and healthcare industries.
And now it’s time to bring to life one of my favorite sayings: “Let gratitude be your attitude.” My thank-you list is long.
- Thank you to Modern Healthcare’s readers, contributors, sponsors and advertisers. You represent the best of this industry and anchor its values—from impact, innovation and diversity to integrity, resilience and faith in a better tomorrow.
- Thank you to every member of the Modern Healthcare team. Together, we’ve chased down the toughest stories and captured the trajectory of emerging issues such as health equity; environmental, social and governance concerns; and sustainability. You never wavered in your commitment to delivering timely, accurate news and insights week after week.
- Thank you to the Crain family—for supporting the mission and significance of Modern Healthcare. Today our brand is stronger and more resilient than ever. It remains the leading source of trusted healthcare news, information and insight and is well-positioned for success in the decades to come.
I’ll be getting my fresh start in the coming year by supporting Modern Healthcare on business strategy and special projects. I also plan to engage in personal passion projects, spend more time with family and friends and check off items on my bucket list.
Thank you everyone for being a constant presence in my work and life. You will always have a place in my heart.
Sincerely,
Fawn Lopez
