Henry Ford Health System and Michigan State University announced Friday they had "solidified" plans to sign a 30-year affiliation agreement that would lead to an expansion of cancer research, primary and specialty care, and health sciences education.
The two partners will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Monday to unveil details of the affiliation, which Crain's reported last June was a primary affiliation that could lead eventually to a new research institute and a regional campus building for MSU.
Officials attending the Zoom teleconference will be Henry Ford President and CEO Wright Lassiter III and MSU President Dr. Samuel Stanley Jr.; Dr. Adnan Munkarah, Henry Ford's chief clinical officer and Dr. Norman Beauchamp, MSU's executive vice president for health sciences.
Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist and U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow are also expected to attend.
In a media advisory released Friday about the announcement, the two partners said the goal of the 30-year partnership is "making Michigan a national leader in scientific discovery, education and exceptional healthcare.
"This partnership is designed to foster innovative, ground-breaking research; provide best-in-class cancer care; increase diversity among the next generation of health care professionals; and address the needs of traditionally underserved communities."
