Joe Byham

Joseph Byham is the vice president of public safety for Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. Jefferson is a healthcare system consisting of 32 hospital locations, five university campuses, numerous outpatient centers, urgent care locations and testing and imaging centers across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Joe is responsible for directing and managing functions of the departments of police, security, emergency management and environmental health & safety, as well as the ambassador, parking and photo ID programs. His duties include the administration of a full-time proprietary police and security force as well as a third-party private security employed by the organization.

Joe started his career at Jefferson as the university’s first emergency preparedness coordinator. Joe chaired the Emergency Preparedness Committee, conducted drills and exercises relating to personal and organizational preparedness and wrote organizational policies and procedures for emergency response.

In 2011, Joe became the director of Environmental Health & Safety for Jefferson, where he managed the department with responsibility for safety for all employees, students and visitors for the hospital and university center city campus and satellite locations.

Melissa Jones

Inspira Health Network

Melissa Jones is the director of workplace violence for Inspira Health of Southern New Jersey. She is responsible for developing, directing and executing strategies, programs and actions designed to promote workplace violence prevention, early intervention and mitigation, utilizing a multidisciplinary and integrated team approach to meet accreditation standards, prevent harm and promote overall safety and wellness throughout Inspira.

Melissa is a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator, Human Services-Board Certified Practitioner and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor with a master’s in administration of human services and a master’s in administration of criminal justice. She is an active member of the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security, Association of Threat Professionals and ASIS International.

Her career highlights include serving as senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Franciscan Alliance, senior manager/specialist leader at Deloitte Consulting, and vice president/chief nurse executive with ProMedica.

Ronald A. Paulus, MD, is president and CEO of Maribel Health, a company with a mission to make home the center of the health system. Before joining Mission Health, Dr. Paulus was executive vice president, clinical operations and chief innovation officer for Geisinger Health System, where he managed Geisinger’s hospitals and its more than 800 physician member group practice and also was responsible for ensuring system-wide innovation. Prior to joining Geisinger, Dr. Paulus was co-founder, president and later CEO of CareScience, Inc. (a NASDAQ company), later acquired by Premier, Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC;) providing an analytics platform to support health systems’ quality and efficiency improvement work used today by nearly 1,000 hospitals nationwide.
