Nov. 11: Beyond the parades and ceremonies honoring America’s veterans, healthcare organizations are stepping up to do their part. Urgent-care provider American Family Care is offering free flu shots to any veteran in honor of Veterans Day (those in the VA system can go to Walgreens anytime to get one).
Nov. 13: Overcoming the oft-cited physician shortage gets some congressional attention, but not in terms of increased funding or lifting GME caps. The House Small Business Committee will look at how the healthcare workforce can be better trained on telehealth and other forms of health IT to help preserve access for rural and underserved communities.
Nov. 13: As of Nov. 5, there have been 2,051 cases of vaping-related lung injuries from 49 states reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And the CDC confirmed there have been 39 deaths in 24 states and the District of Columbia. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hear from two CDC officials about the use of e-cigarettes among youths.
Nov. 14: The meeting announcement doesn’t offer much to go on, but the House Ways and Means Committee holds a hearing on “caring for aging Americans.” Last month, the committee passed bills that extend dental, vision and hearing coverage under Medicare.
