A career in healthcare means a commitment to improving the lives of others.
The 2023 inductees into Modern Healthcare’s Health Care Hall of Fame exemplify how that dedication can lead to leadership roles influencing patient care for decades.
This year, Modern Healthcare and the American College of Healthcare Executives honor three healthcare leaders who rose from modest beginnings to become industry visionaries: Sister Carol Keehan, retired president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States; the late Dr. Philip Lee, former assistant U.S. secretary for health and scientific affairs; and Dr. Herbert Pardes, former president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian.
The three focused on different areas of healthcare. Still, each of them recognized the need to improve healthcare access for vulnerable populations and used their growing influence to push for forward-thinking programs such as Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, along with the need for a better understanding of mental health.
That courage of their convictions to do the right thing, even when it was unpopular at times, shines through the profiles you can find here:
