Cornell University last month joined the growing list of schools offering free or steeply discounted access to medical school. Weill Cornell Medicine is launching a debt-free scholarship program for medical students who can demonstrate a financial need. NYU School of Medicine last year announced free tuition for all current and future students. Columbia University, the University of Houston and the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine have also announced plans to reduce the debt burden on medical students, which is steep.
