Social media was awash with posts on March 19 showing soon-to-be doctors jumping for joy (or feigning excitement) as they learned where they would—or would not—be doing their residency. Match Day is a seminal event in a medical school student’s journey to becoming a doctor. And COVID-19 undoubtedly amplified emotions. “The application and recruitment cycle was upended as a result of the pandemic, yet the results of the Match continue to demonstrate strong and consistent outcomes for participants,” Donna Lamb, president and CEO of the National Resident Matching Program, said in a statement.
