Modern Healthcare is changing its annual awards program honoring the women shaping healthcare in order to spotlight more of these leaders.
Beginning in 2024, our flagship Women Leaders awards will celebrate a new class of honorees each year who are helping guide their organizations and the industry.
Our new program will bring attention to executives who have not previously been recognized. For our Women Leaders awards, we’re looking for women executives who are making a positive impact on policy, care delivery and the business of healthcare. We’ve also created a new designation—Rising Stars— to recognize women who’ve made noteworthy accomplishments and have been in their current role for no longer than three years. Each year we will also honor a Vanguard, recognizing a woman for her career achievements and impact.
Nominations for the program are open now through Jan. 8 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
To be eligible for the awards, nominees must currently work in healthcare, at a provider, insurer, association, government agency, vendor, supplier, investment firm, advocacy group, etc. Women who have been honored in our previous Top Women Leaders program, except as a “Woman to Watch,” are ineligible for Women Leaders. For our Rising Star awards, women previously recognized as a “Woman to Watch” are ineligible.

What’s changing with the Women Leaders Awards?
We’ve updated the program to recognize a new class of women each year who are leading change in their organizations and within the industry.
Why did we make the changes?
The healthcare industry is growing and gaining talent in many areas. We are updating the program to shine the spotlight each year on a new group of women, and not just 25 of them, who are dedicated to improving their organizations and the patient experience.
What about women who were previously honored?
Modern Healthcare congratulates the women who have been recognized in previous years as top women leaders but they are ineligible for nomination. Women who have been honored as a “Woman to Watch” are eligible for nomination as “Women Leaders.”
How much does a nomination cost?
The nomination fee is $250 to submit a name for consideration. A nomination does not guarantee selection.
How do we select the honorees?
The editors of Modern Healthcare will select the Women Leaders and Rising Stars based on eligibility and their accomplishments in the industry. There is no nomination process for the Vanguard; the honoree will be determined by the editors based on career achievements and how the work has inspired and mentored others.
When will the honorees be announced?
The honorees will be published online and in MH magazine on March 11.
