Children's Health, OSF HealthCare invest in AI
Pieces Technologies, a clinical generative artificial intelligence company, received $25 million in growth funding.
Dallas-based Children's Health led the round, with participation from Peoria, Illinois-based health system OSF HealthCare, venture capital firm Rittenhouse Ventures and investment firm Concord Health Partners.

Pieces Technologies uses generative AI to summarize and document clinical notes in a provider’s electronic health record system. Although it is integrated with the Epic EHR, it has the capability to integrate with other EHR software, a spokesperson said.
The company said in a news release it will use the funds to invest in its technology and add customers.
Several generative AI companies that offer clinical documentation are competing to win health system customers.
Viome nabs $25M from Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, others
Viome Life Sciences, which has developed multiple diagnostic tests for gut and oral health, received $25 million in a Series D funding round.
Investors included Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and venture capital firms Khosla Ventures, Bold Capital and WRG Ventures.
The company said in a news release it will use the funds to launch its diagnostic division and grow its offerings. It is also bringing on former Amazon Senior Vice President Kal Raman as its chief operating officer.
Viome, which has brought in $200 million, last raised $86.6 million in a Series C funding round in August 2023.
Candid Health gets $29M for revenue cycle automation
Candid Health, a revenue cycle automation company, has raised $29 million in a Series B funding round.
The round was led by venture capital firm 8VC. Venture capital firms First Round Capital, BoxGroup, and Y Combinator also participated.
Candid’s platform aims to streamline the patient billing process for provider organizations by flagging potential issues with claims before they’re submitted to payers. The company has raised $47 million to date.
Rethink Impact launches $250M fund
Rethink Impact, a venture capital firm focusing on women-led companies, has launched a $250 million fund.
The venture capital firm has backed digital health companies such as mental health startup Spring Health, virtual rehabilitation company Eleanor Health and digital cognitive screening-focused Neurotrack. It also invests in education, climate and financial services companies.
The fund is Rethink’s third. The venture capital firm’s investor base includes philanthropist Melinda French Gates, more than 10 university endowments, and limited partners such as Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and financial services firm UBS.
Alpha Partners takes in $153M for new fund
Alpha Partners, a growth equity firm, launched its third fund with $153 million to invest.
Alpha has invested in digital health startups, including direct-to-consumer telehealth company Ro and radiology AI company RadAI. The company’s third fund is nearly three times the size of its $52 million second.
