Cleveland Clinic backs medical technology company
XII Medical, a medical technology company focused on obstructive sleep apnea, announced a $45 million Series B funding round.
The round was led by investment firm Omega Funds. Cleveland Clinic, health and life science strategic investor Ajax Health, and venture capital firms Intuitive Ventures and Longview Ventures were among the others participating.

XII Medical has developed a therapy designed to enhance quality of life for obstructive sleep apnea patients. The company said in a news release it would use the funding to advance product and clinical development.
Redesign Health startup launches with $7.5M seed round
Sounder Benefits, an employer benefits company, launched with a $7.5 million seed investment from Redesign Health. New York-based Redesign generates ideas to build healthcare startups, connects those startups to seed funding, recruits entrepreneurs to lead the companies and provides operational assistance.
Sounder assembles employee health benefits for self-insured employers. It will use the funding to hire additional staff and invest in its platform, a spokesperson said.
CareFirst, Johns Hopkins launch health AI accelerator
Johns Hopkins University is working with insurance company CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and venture capital firm TechStars to create an early-stage artificial intelligence startup accelerator, the organizations said.
Oncology Ventures announces $30M fund
Oncology Ventures, a firm that invests in cancer-focused data, infrastructure and information technology, announced the close of a $30 million fund.
The fund’s limited partners include Duarte, California-based cancer care provider City of Hope, healthcare services company Cardinal Health and Morristown, New Jersey-based Atlantic Health System, according to a blog post by Oncology Ventures founder Ben Freeberg. Freeberg formerly served as a vice president at Optum Ventures.
