Quest Diagnostics is adding generative artificial intelligence capabilities by partnering with Google’s cloud division.
The national laboratory provider said in a news release Tuesday it will use Google Cloud’s technology to personalize experiences for its consumers. The two companies said Quest will explore using generative AI to offer physicians and patients insights into lab data.

For the collaboration, Quest will tap tools from Google including the platform Google Agentspace, which allows companies to automate complex tasks through customizable AI agents.
Quest said in the release using Google Cloud’s technology will also help the lab company improve its data quality, management and security. Quest fulfilled more than 200 million test orders and managed over 80 billion datapoints in 2024, the laboratory company said.
Quest has worked with Google in the past through its Google Health division, but this is its first collaboration with Google Cloud, a Quest spokesperson said.
The lab provider, which signed a deal with AI startup Paige in 2021, has used AI for microbiology and cytology testing, specimen processing and customer service.
Quest and Google declined to comment on any financial specifics or further details of the partnership.
The collaboration is the latest example of the emergence of AI agents — tools created to help organizations complete time-intensive functions more efficiently — in healthcare. Companies are developing AI agents to verify insurance benefits, share information to patients before a procedure and assist with prescription refills. Electronic health record company Epic, big data company Innovaccer, and consumer-focused Salesforce have all launched AI agents in the last few months.
