Amazon One Medical is adding a new wrinkle to its telehealth service that will put it in competition with direct-to-consumer digital health company Hims & Hers.
On Thursday, the tech giant said in a blog post it would offer upfront, monthly pricing for customers seeking consultations and medications for five conditions including erectile dysfunction, men’s hair loss, eyelash growth, motion sickness and anti-aging skin care. Amazon, which consolidated and rebranded its health business to Amazon One Medical in June, offers telehealth care for more than 30 conditions that costs $29 for a messaging appointment and $49 for a video visit.

This latest move pits Amazon against direct-to-consumer telehealth companies such as Hims & Hers and Ro, which have built businesses on marketing a subscription-based, consumer telehealth service to patients seeking medications for common conditions. Hims & Hers, which offers medications and treatments for weight loss, hair loss and mental health, reported a strong third-quarter on Nov. 5.
In early trading, shares of Hims & Hers were down 17%.
The service, which is available exclusively to Prime members, will allow users to pay an upfront, monthly fee for medications for the five conditions through Amazon Pharmacy. Prime members can see the monthly cost or per use cost for the Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit virtual visit as well as the medications prior to starting the service. Patients requiring medication can also send their prescriptions elsewhere to be filled but the price will vary, Amazon said.
Amazon One Medical will continue to offer its legacy pay-per-visit service to patients that are not Prime members. The massive tech company, which acquired One Medical in 2023 for $3.9 billion, has made several other changes to its healthcare strategy this year. On Oct. 21, Amazon One Medical said it will collaborate with Cleveland Clinic to open a primary care office in 2025, with plans for additional locations over the next few years.
