    About the Survey

This survey provides important information on construction and design firms that do business within the healthcare industry. Companies that participate are required to be based in the U.S. and have 100,000 square feet or more of healthcare projects in at least one phase of construction-completed, broke ground/in progress or designed. Companies include projects where they are the architect, construction manager, general contractor, design/build firm or developer of record. This survey was first published in 1980.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can my company participate?

A: Email a name, title, address and phone number of the appropriate contact(s) to [email protected] to be added to the distribution list for this survey.

Q: When will the 2023 survey open?

A: The 2023 Construction & Design survey opened January 30.

Q: When is the completed survey form due?

A: The final day to submit to the 2023 Construction & Design survey is March 24.

Q: What changes were made to the survey?

A: The changes include the following: the instructions and criteria are more clear—including a new requirement that firms must have at least 10 full-time equivalent employees, the quantitative prompts (e.g., Specialty Hospitals, Medical Office Buildings, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Outpatient Facilities, & Research Facilities) have been consolidated and no longer are separated by new or replacements, expansions, and renovations, and the open-ended questions have been reduced.

Q: What happens with this survey's results?

A: The data collected from this survey goes to create charts and rankings that illustrate a Special Feature story that is written by a Modern Healthcare reporter. Visit our Data Center for the most recent Construction & Design Survey results.

Q: When will the results be published?

A: The 2023 Construction & Design Survey results will appear in the May 1 issue of Modern Healthcare.

Q: How much does it cost to participate?

A: There is no cost to participate in this survey.

Q: Can we still send in information if the deadline has passed?

A: Yes, the link will still be active for you to submit online. However, your information will not be taken into consideration for the survey results. A late submission will not be considered for participation. It will, however, be saved into the database so that it can be accessed for next year's survey.
