Murthy, who served as Surgeon General during the Obama administration, returned to the post in 2021. His  office’s priorities for this term have included making social media safer and improving mental health support for youth; combating loneliness; encouraging workplace well-being; fighting misinformation; and protecting health workers from burnout.
