Walrath, an entrepreneur, founded ShiftMed in 2019. The company, which has focused on helping skilled nursing facilities address staffing issues, also began working with health systems in 2023. ShiftMed seeks to allow healthcare organizations to reduce their reliance on traditional travel nurses by filling open shifts with ShiftMed’s staff of credentialed W-2 certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses and registered nurses in more than 110 markets. Nurses and aides have flexible schedules and incentives, including immediate pay, guaranteed shifts and health benefits. ShiftMed said it saved its health system clients $85 million in 2023 by reducing their temporary labor costs.
