Samuel Hazen
CEO, HCA Healthcare
Hazen, who has worked at HCA Healthcare for more than 40 years, was tapped to lead the 186-hospital company in 2019. HCA, which also includes roughly 2,400 ambulatory care sites, estimates that it provides about 6% of all U.S. inpatient hospital services. This year, patient volume rose at the Nashville, Tennessee-headquartered organization, which spent more than $5 billion in the first three quarters on capital projects. Under Hazen’s leadership, the company — which owns dozens of hospitals in areas prone to hurricanes — has supported facilities that may be victimized by natural disasters, including through the work of its Enterprise Emergency Operations Center. It also provides grants to colleagues affected by emergencies: Last year, it gave more than $109,000 to staff members and their families following the devastation of Hurricane Idalia.
