Stone has spent a decade as the leader of City of Hope working to expand access to cancer care and innovations. The Duarte, California-headquartered organization serves 86 million Americans in five U.S. regions. It also partners with institutions in Asia and Latin America to offer second opinions and oncology knowledge. In April, City of Hope invested $33 million in AccessHope, a spinoff that connects workers at more than 400 companies to expertise from National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers. A few months later, it announced that the Cancer Care is Different Coalition — founded by City of Hope — was teaming with Illinois state lawmakers in calling for the support of a bill giving cancer care patients access to new and emerging treatments. The push follows the passage of a similar law in California in 2022.
