Tandon leads Walgreens’ clinical trial business, which launched in 2022 with the goals of increasing access, equity and patient retention in drug development research. Since then, the company has been contracted to help recruit participants for more than two dozen clinical trials in oncology, diabetes and obesity, cardiovascular disease and other conditions. Through the use of a data-driven and culturally sensitive approach, Walgreens is reporting success in exceeding national averages for the recruitment of Hispanic or Latino, Black or African American, and female participants into trials. Using texts, emails, pharmacy-counter conversations and direct mail, the company recently said it topped its recruitment goal for the ongoing clinical trial of a monoclonal antibody being tested as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
