Tuffin took the reins as the trade group’s top executive in January — but he is well acquainted with AHIP, having served as executive vice president on the communications and public affairs team for nearly a decade in the early 2000s. In between, he was senior vice president for external affairs for UnitedHealth Group, along with holding a managing director position at APCO Worldwide’s headquarters. Since returning to the association this year, he has spoken about the importance of federal support for Medicare Advantage and the extension of tax credits for health insurance exchange customers. AHIP under his leadership this year partnered with public and private health organizations to promote availability of preventive services under the Affordable Care Act.
