Alkire has worked at Premier for two decades, starting as the president of its purchasing partners team and holding a variety of leadership roles before being named its president and CEO in 2021. This year, he focused Premier’s efforts on performance improvement and technology. He launched the PINC AI 100 Top Hospitals program, which uses measurements of clinical outcomes, extended outcomes, financial health, patient experience and operational efficiency to define top-performing providers. He also reorganized the leadership team and appointed a new chief financial officer. According to Premier, his direction led to $1.7 billion in savings for its 4,350 members. Outside of the organization, Alkire attended more than a dozen advocacy meetings with members of Congress to advance health policy. He serves as the Healthcare Leadership Council’s executive committee treasurer.
