Mahoney leads the Philadelphia-headquartered six-hospital system with an eye toward environmental and organizational sustainability. The organization — which, along with Perelman School of Medicine, composes Penn Medicine — this year signed the Health Sector Climate Pledge and published its first climate action plan and signed a definitive agreement with Doylestown Health to add a seventh hospital. It also declined to participate in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Hospitals” survey, opting instead to spin up a dashboard including quality data for all care settings. From a worker retention standpoint, Mahoney has prioritized safety and efficiency by investing in artificial intelligence technology, weapons detections systems and de-escalation training.
