Research shows that in 2023, Epic was used by 39% of acute-care hospitals — compared with 36% in 2022 — and affiliated with 52% of acute-care beds, up from 48% the year prior. It has taken big steps this year to beef up its artificial intelligence offerings, including launching an open-source tool allowing providers to test and validate models; building a specialized large language model drawing on insights from its analytics and research platform Cosmos; and partnering with Microsoft to build a tool enabling nurses to more easily document in the EHR.
