Excellence in Governance - 2023

Over the past 15 years, Johnson has spent time on each of the Hospitals of Providence’s four boards, including as chair of its Transmountain Campus board in 2022 and its East Campus board in 2023. He has been instrumental in developing strategies to boost access to care in the El Paso, Texas, region. For instance, Johnson led the push for the organization—part of Tenet Healthcare Corp.—to respond to the growing needs of the community surrounding the Hospitals of Providence’s East Campus. In 2022, the hospital announced a $20 million investment project aimed at expanding capacity. He has also supported and guided the hospital throughout its pursuit of becoming a Level 2 trauma center. Johnson has focused on strong clinician recruitment pushes, enabling the system to attract 34 new physician practices to the area and the Transmountain Campus to launch a medical residency program.
