Dr. Mary Ann Stevenson
Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Stevenson has chaired the board of the physician group, which employs more than 2,200 clinicians, through major challenges it has faced over the past few years. In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic and staffing shortages, HMFP also had to integrate nearly 100 physicians into its network when several providers joined Beth Israel Lahey Health. In spite of the difficulties, the organization has maintained fiscal stability, thanks in part to Stevenson and the board’s efforts. In 2023, HMFP started a revenue cycle review for surgery and other departments; evaluated and assessed billing platforms; instituted improvement plans for negatively performing departments; and updated and standardized compensation plans. Stevenson also set an ambitious diversity, equity and inclusion agenda, increasing board representation of women and people of color and helping to develop a $100,000 recruitment and retention fund, among other initiatives.
