Excellence in Governance - 2022

LaClair has spent 17 years on ProMedica boards, beginning on the ProMedica Toledo (Ohio) Hospital board and later as chair of ProMedica’s insurance arm. He now chairs the parent board. LaClair, who spent almost four decades in the banking industry, three of those with Fifth Third Bank before retiring as its president, served on almost a dozen ProMedica committees in the past year and led with a focus on health equity, diversity and strategic growth. As chair, he has helped refine the board’s charter to galvanize inclusion efforts and supported work that has made ProMedica a national leader in addressing the social determinants of health. In addition to leading the board through the COVID-19 pandemic, he also assisted with the first stages of the system’s succession plan by having open dialogues about leadership and long-term goals.
