Karim has worked since 2014 at NYC Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest municipal health system, which includes 11 hospitals and serves more than 1 million patients annually. In 2020, he led creation of Virtual ExpressCare, a blended digital and in-person care model that provides access to a healthcare provider for medical, reproductive, mental health and substance use care within five minutes of arrival 24/7. The service, accessed by more than 90,000 New Yorkers annually, assisted more than 3,000 patients experiencing homelessness and treated 500 patients for addiction in 2023. It has attracted 100,000 new patients to the health system since its inception.
